Hello everyone

13th February 2006 | Other items by Jillian Ross

A very warm welcome for 2006 from all of the staff at David Krut Arts Resource! (belated of course…)This letter comes to you as an update on what has been happening at David Krut Print Workshop (DKW). With each update I will include some images of both the artist and

the work that is being created in the studio. Soon these updates and images will feature on our website and will be interactive. Responses are welcome but not expected. This update will come to you weekly from now on. Enjoy!

mashile_work_in_progress_LRThe new year started with Colbert Mashile in the studio completing monotypes that began late last year. The series of large unique works focus on people and portraits. They will feature alongside editioned work that will show in our gallery from the 4th of March. He also began a series of linocuts, one of which will be included in a special book project with J.M. Coetzee.

The following two weeks Deborah Bell was in the studio focusing her energy on a series of drypoint images with printer Tim Foulds. She also began work on the largest plate we have ever printed in the workshop (900 x 1200 mm). Deborah will be back in the studio next week to continue work on the large plate and experiment with colour variation and carborundum.

This week began by introducing Johan Engels to the medium of etching. The prints that he produced were based on preparatory drawings for a cantata based on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that he is working on with Janice Honeyman, Antjie Krog, and Philip Miller. Johan lives and works in the UK and will be back and forth to South Africa throughout the year and will be back in the studio.

Wilma Cruise was also in the studio for a few days working with me on monotypes and pronto plate images. She draws inspiration from a series of life-size sculptures she is creating in her studio. Wilma and I have finally solved the mysteries of the pronto plate.

findlay_work_in_progress_LRIn preparation for an upcoming exhibition, Bronwen Findlay was in finishing monotypes with hand work. We have been experimenting with carborundum, stencils and embossing. This series of small prints relates to her etchings of blankets and facecloths.

I wish everyone the best and will speak to you all very soon,
