On 16 November 2007 the facilitators of the TAEP was introduced to the art of book-making. They attended a workshop at the Michaelis Art Library where they learnt how to bind a book from start to finish. Guided through the entire process of bookbinding, from cutting the paper, sewing the spine and making the covers, they were taught to produce a beautifully hand crafted work of art. The facilitators who took part in this workshop committed themselves to a bookmaking project with which they intend to raise funds for 2008. Over the next few weeks they will produce a limited amount of books that will be sold at the David Krut Bookstore on Jan Smuts Avenue in Parkwood. These books are covered in traditional shweshwe fabric of all colours and only the best quality paper is used – ideal for a sketchbook, pocket diary or journal with a truly South African feel. These are not just ordinary books, but each book is an original art object created with care and skilful craftsmanship. Books are available in various sizes and prices range from R40 to R100.
