25 Years of Prints
1st July 2005 | Other items by Administrator |
David Krut has been publishing prints since his first edition with British artist Joe Tilson in 1981. Since then he has been instrumental in a revival of interest in printmaking in South Africa, helping to bring together internationally recognised artists and printers, like William Kentridge and the American printer Randy Hemminghaus, and to initiate several important artistic collaborations. Seeing a need for a professional printing facility in Johannesburg, Krut established David Krut Print Workshop (DKW) in 2002. Emerging and established South African artists, including Colbert Mashile, Deborah Bell, Sarah Tabane, Penny Siopis, and Willem Boshoff, have worked at DKW with master printers from South Africa and abroad. DKW specialises in intaglio (a process in which lines are etched or engraved into the surface of a metal plate to create an image) and monotypes, and is well known for producing work that is technically accomplished and experimental. The work in this exhibition represents an important contribution to contemporary South African art and printmaking. This show opened at the Grahamstown Festival in July 2005 Dates: 11 Sept 2005 to 28 Jan 2006 140 Jan Smuts Avenue, Parkwood, 2193, Johannesburg |
