The Berliner Kunstsalom is a magnet for art collectors, curators and gallerists and of course an art-interested public. As the Salon is at the same time as the Art Forum Berlin it profits from the large number of international art buyers and experts that are in the city and offers them the chance to discover new young modern artists at the Berliner Kunstsalon. Below is an image from the venue, an old converted slaughterhouse. The goal of the Berliner Kunstsalon is to attract an educated public who are open to new movements and setting trends. South African painter Alexandra Ross is participating in the event, where she has been exploring new avenues with regards to her artwork and the presentation of the work in a public environment. She has said, “The Kunstsalon was a good opportunity for me to see and be seen. Over the five days of the fair, I met some interesting (and interested) artists, art lovers and gallerists. Not so many buyers. But that’s Berlin – no surprises there. “The most exciting development for me, besides making the new oil on paper paintings, was finding an original way to hang the unframed works, Something that would not only complement but also integrate with the works. Something that would allow for easy changes or re-hanging. Something that would echo the delicate, ephemeral, and uncomplicated aesthetic of the work itself. “Finally, after toying with nails, pins, prestick, hooks, pegs, clips, tape and magnets – I came up with this “needle and thread” system.” Below are a series of images kindly provided by the artist of new work in oil on paper created by Ross for the Kunstsalon. |
