Passer Bye

Henen’s working method is energetic and intuitive and has resulted in work that reflects the changeability and bustle of urban life. The figures that populate her prints are like astronauts or deep-sea divers, setting out on journeys of discovery. At the same time, the taxis and chairs that jostle for space in the works are reminders of the ordinary details of the city, of the mundane objects and routines that exist inside the pace and motion of the metropolis. Trasi Henen studied art at Wits University and, since graduating in 2003, has participated in several group exhibitions. She organised the 2004 festival Art in the Dark and was the Curator and Project Manager for the 2004 Women’s Day at Constitution Hill. The body of work to be exhibited at David Krut Arts Resource marks an important milestone for this dynamic young artist. Passer Bye opens at David Krut Arts Resource on Saturday 30 July at 11 am and will run through 30 August. The exhibition will feature prints created by Henen with printers Tim Foulds and Jill Ross at David Krut Print Workshop, as well as a series of Henen’s new paintings. |

In Passer Bye Trasi Henen has created a series of etchings and monotypes that engage with the idea of the flaneur, the melancholy city wanderer making their way through an environment that is both alienating and liberating.
