Nathaniel Stern and I have been experimenting with ways to combine digital imagery and traditional printmaking techniques. Over the last few weeks Nathaniel has been in and out of the studio with new images for us to translate. Although Nathaniel uses his computer as his main tool he has not shied away from using his hands during the translation. He has been engraving plates and playing with spitbite as I and my assistants Niall Bingham and Lungi Khongisa experiment with silkscreen techniques, chine collé and combinations with pronto plates. Last week in the studio proved quite eventful and many successful tests were completed. Nathaniel will be back in the studio in early May to resolve colour proofing. |
Robert Whitehead was also in the studio last week to try his hand at line etching. Robert is creating portrait line drawings and getting a hands-on experience in the workshop. He will be back in the studio soon to continue the project and to start a second etching. |

Hi
I came across you through the artlink.co.za newsletter I receive by email.
Co incidentally this morning I received a book from Amazon ( do you have them in South Africa – books online ) anyway the book I was sent is called
‘Printmaking at the Edge’ by Richard Noyce, I am one of the artists featured on the book. Perhaps you guys would find it to be of interest. IT IS a good book.

I would love to show some of my work there in South Africa.
best wishes with the developments in the print studio
