Grethe Fox has worked as a leading actress in over 60 theatre productions, 10 television dramas, 18 television series and 9 feature films. Grethe has starred in many productions directed by Marthinus Basson, including Madonna; in Breyten Breytenbach’s first play, Boklied; Masha in Reza de Wet’s Drie Susters Twee; and most recently in Die Goue Seun, which wion the award for Best Drama at KKNK in 2002. In 1998 Grethe won an Avanti Television Award for her performance in Onder Draai die Duiwel Rond, directed by Katinka Heyns. She appears as Karen in the popular series Soul City. Grethe will be remembered for her performance as Erna Dorfmann in Manie van Rensburg’s acclaimed film and mini series, The Fourth Reich, for which she received the Artes, Tonight & M-Net awards. Grethe recently appeared as Morgana in the british film, Merlin the Return, and in the German film, Malundi, and is currently shooting the German feature, Platinum. She studied at Univirsity of Cape Town drama school & the Jacques Lecoq Theatre and Mime School in Paris.
Highlights of Grethe’s theatre career include playing Nora in A Doll’s House, Sonya in Uncle Vanja, Ophelia in Hamlet, Electra in Die Oresteia and Cassandra in Vroue van Troje. Grethe Fox has received over 16 nominations for theatre performances including a Vita award for her role in Women in the Wings and has been awarded 6 best actress awards for her work in film & television.
