Jerry and the Crew spent a morning filming at DK Arts Resource. Curious Culture is a magazine programme that runs on SABC 2 on Mondays at 19h30. The programme focuses on the arts, from dance, to theatre and fine arts and every thing in-between. Jerry Mofokeng and Shelley Meskin are the presenters who take viewers on a journey over the length and breadth of the South African cultural landscape. Considering Curious Culture’s mission brief, it is not surprising that they spent a full morning at David Krut Arts Resource (DKArts). The crew arrived at DKArts bright and early on Thursday, 27 July. Jerry Mofokeng and David Krut spoke at length about David’s involvement in the arts and all the diverse and complementary activities at DKARTS. For notes on the conversation that ensued, click here. The Curious Culture crew also filmed Jill Ross, manager and printer at David Krut Print Workshop (DKW), printing a new William Kentridge drypoint copper plate with carborundum, a new process being used at DKW. Naill Bingham and Lunghi Konghisa, the two print workshop assistants caught a bit of limelight, as cameras focused on printing techniques. The dedicated arts bookshop at DKArts attracted great interest, and the crew also shot all the links for the episode, as David Krut Arts was the selected venue for the show, as such, almost every interesting corner was used – at every imaginable angle. Once the filming was done the producer, Stephen Lorenco, David Krut and Jerry Mofokeng had an off-camera discussion on art in South Africa and projects that had caught the attention of the crew. Jerry was particularly impressed with the emphasis David placed on collaboration and outreach. He and Stephen wanted to know more about the TAXI Art Education Programme, the American Express Red Card project and the artist Avhashoni Mainganye. They discussed future collaboration and the possibility of a print publication to reflect this.
Watch out for the interview Monday 7:30pm on SABC 2 (date to be confirmed) |
