Cruise at Krut: Wilma Cruise Works on Paper was opened by Elfriede Dreyer on 5 August and was well attended by artists, art writers, collectors and the public at large.
Elfriede Dreyer delivered a thoughtful and intellectually astute opening, Cruise at Krut exceeded expectations on all levels – the experimental nature of the work and Cruise’s proficiency in the variety of media on display astounded. Through sculpture, installation and print, Cruise pushes the boundaries of her oeuvre, delivering work that is visually seductive and intellectually thorough. The audience was visibly impressed and work sold rapidly. In fact, 22 prints sold at the opening alone. This near sell-out reflects not only the quality of Cruise’s work, but also the accessibility of the print medium.

She took attendees through her visual diary that is included on the exhibition and explained the nature of her collaboration with printmaker Jill Ross (the manager of the DKW).
Cruise at Krut is not to be missed; it is an exceptional show which admirably reflects the versatility of one of South Africa’s leading artists. Cruise at Krut: Wilma Cruise Works on Paper will run up until 23 September 2006. |
