We are pleased to announce that Diane Victor will be the subject of the next Taxi Art Book. Victor, who trained at Wits University under Giuseppe Cattaneo, has been exhibiting her work since the late eighties. She has had more than a dozen solo shows in two decades of prolific printmaking and drawing and her work is in major collections in South Africa and abroad (including the Museum of Modern Art in New York). In addition to her commitment to her own career, Victor has earned a reputation as a dedicated teacher and a tireless mentor to the many students who have learned printmaking and drawing from her. Victor’s uncompromising approach to often-difficult subject matter lends her work an austerity that challenges critics. But this seriousness is often undercut by a strong note of irony and by clear-eyed self-analysis. Taxi-013 Diane Victor (forthcoming in 2007) will be the first full-length publication on an artist who has earned her place as an important figure in contemporary South African art. |
