Meschac Gaba – Tresses and other recent projects

meschac-gaba

Meschac Gaba: Tresses and other recent projects is a catalogue jointly published by Michael Stevenson and the Johannesburg Art Gallery to accompany exhibitions at both these venues. This catalogue features an essay by Johannesburg Art Gallery curator Khwezi Gule, and an interview with Gaba by Joost Bosland highlighting the importance of humour and play in Gaba’s work. Meschac Gaba is a sculptor with an established international career, and has exhibited his work in cities like New York, Paris and Amsterdam. For the purposes of this exhibition Gaba created sculptures of brightly coloured artificial (synthetic) hair. These sculptures are miniature representations of famous buildings in London and New York. Gaba states categorically that they are not wigs.
