DKW Update Aug 2006 – Nov 2006 PART THREE
13th November 2006 | Other items by Jillian Ross |
Bruce Backhouse in Studio Recently DKW introduced a weekend etching course to our resumé. The course is held over three consecutive Sundays and allows for the creation and printing of two copper plate etchings. The course has proven highly successful in many ways, one of which has been the introduction of new artists and ideas to the studio. This is how we came to meet Bruce Backhouse. After Bruce had taken the course we happily invited him in to collaborate with us in the studio. Bruce began his collaboration with Niall Bingham by working with traditional line etching and aquatints and, during his week in the studio, found his niche in the more painterly mark of spitbite. Bruce’s work is very tightly composed and combinations of spitbite and line etching seemed the most natural route to take. Bruce is very well known for his water colour paintings of dancing figures, landscapes and outdoor scenes. His focus in his etchings draws from his paintings and he is starting to combine ideas. Bruce will be returning to the studio to continue his etchings and also to begin work on a series of monotypes in the near future. |

Great to see Bruceo getting into this line art. I would think that etching will come very naturally to him and look forward to seeing some of his work.
