Many of you who have bought prints from us or had occasion to visit our gallery in Chelsea, New York, will have been in contact with Kate McCrickard, the Director of David Krut Projects. We are thrilled to welcome Kate to Johannesburg for the first time.
Kate McCrickard began working with David Krut in New York in March 2002. David Krut Projects was neighbour to Randy Hemminghaus’s print workshop, Galamander Press, at the time, and much of the time Kate’s job involved managing the print editions, artists and the Taxi Art Book series. The space has now grown, and together with David Krut, Kate has developed the space into an active arts project activity, with an international exhibition program, critically reviewed in the competitive New York art world. The programme to date includes exhibits by Santu Mofokeng, Gary Schneider, Tom Huck, Wallace Whitney, Cannonball Press and El Anatsui, alongside curatorial guest slots by artists and critics, Carrie Moyer and Sheila Pepe.
Kate also runs the Body Maps HIV touring exhibition within the USA. It is currently on display at Cornell University.
Kate is a painter in her own right, and graduated with MA Honours in Fine Art from Edinburgh University and Edinburgh College of Art in 1998. She has lived in New York for nearly 6 years now, but hopes to spend more time taking David Krut Projects to her native Britain in the future. This is her first trip back to Africa since her childhood spent in Zambia and Malawi.
