Outreach-TAEP

Always inclined to challenge people’s claims to names and supposed meanings, I stepped into David Krut Arts Resource because I had never seen it so plainly and directly put; Arts Resource. I was mainly looking for a publisher or publishing agent for my poetic work.

David came back from New York and said I had arrived just in time, as they were looking for someone to market the DKArts philosophy. The DKArts philosophy entails: collaboration and communication, Arts administration, education, the creation of artworks, the promotion of artists and their works, publishing of books on all aspects of the arts and education, and is a platform for writers to develop books.

I consider myself a man, with a simplified life, applying positive and negative energy in dealing with people. An escapist, one may say, a realist that does not see cause for over explanation or pompous vocabulary. The excellence and progressive spirit that abides here is adequate for me. I am therefore well equipped to disseminate this DK philosophy into the community.

Energy conversion agents, community catalysts, community builders, whaterver you wish to name them, they exist here. It is for this reason that I will grant DK, with my individual power invested, the title: ARTS RESOURCE. There is nothing pretentious here, just a chance for the willing to make a livelihood. TAXI Art Education Programme offers an education for all those who hunger for it. – Solomon Mabengeza – TAEP Coordinator.

JAG HAPPENINGS: MTN Is Painting JAG Yellow

In the beginning it was more than a little strange seeing primary school children – all still in uniforms, but all from different schools – wandering around the Johannesburg Art Gallery. By choice it seemed. I later learned that they were all here for art classes. These art classes which are sponsored by MTN [...]

JAG HAPPENINGS: Artillary

For the few readers out there who actually read this manifesto (I mean column) & were wondering what had happened to the Saturday classes and these zany projects, the answers will now follow:
Like any self-respecting revolution, the Saturday Art Class had to, as they say in the movies, “go underground.” During our little black out, which [...]

JAG HAPPENINGS: Friends on walkabout

16th July 2009 by Nolan Stevens

Unlike the ‘friends’ on networks such as Facebook and Twitter, the Friends of the JAG (Johannesburg Art Gallery) are actually made up of real people who do real activities like breathing, eating and going on walks. All jokes aside though The Friends of JAG are a group of dedicated art-lovers from all walks of life who [...]

JAG HAPPENINGS: Artology – A Saturday School Thing

Whilst ‘normal people’ were at home doing whatever it is that normal people do on a Saturday, the first of the group of sleep and heat deprived art-lovers who visit the gallery on Saturdays in search of - shall we call it “Artology” – shuffle into the David Krut Bookstore.
I noticed the growth of the group [...]

JAG HAPPENINGS SERIES: Portrait of a Lady

Antoinette Murdoch. The name might be unfamiliar to some patrons of JAG (the Johannesburg Art Gallery), but this I believe is changing fast. The name in question belongs to the gallery’s newly appointed chief  curator, who arrives fresh from a successful three-year stint as CDO of the Johannesburg Art Bank. An accomplished artist, gallery manager [...]

JAG HAPPENINGS SERIES: The T.A.E.P. Light Still Burns

The now detonked T.A.E.P. (Taxi Arts Education Programme) was an initiative aimed at enriching those youth communities unable part take in art (be the art form dance, drama, music or visual art).
