About Us

Background

David Krut Publishing (DKP) was established in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1997 when David Krut produced the first major publication on William Kentridge in CD-ROM format. The CD-ROM provided an insight into the multi-media talents of Kentridge, and in so doing, alerted the public to the diverse creative talents to be found in post-apartheid South Africa. We have gone on to publish several more titles on Kentridge (see the bookstore page), as well as a range of other books on contemporary South African art and architecture.

David Krut Publishing Today

DKP publishes high quality books on contemporary South African art and architecture with the intention of encouraging an awareness of the wealth of creative talent in South Africa and promoting local writing on a range of subjects.

TAXI Art Books

In 2000 David Krut Publishing began to publish the TAXI Art Books, the first-ever series of monographs on contemporary South African artists. The TAXI Art Books seek to draw attention to the important work being produced by South African artists, and are also an excellent educational resource for both school and tertiary learners. To date we have published 13 books in the series, with TAXI-014 Mmakgabo Sebidi due out in 2008. Each book is accompanied by an Educational Supplement containing valuable teaching material for secondary school and tertiary institution visual arts teachers.

As befits its name, TAXI is also a vehicle supporting various other development and outreach initiatives. More information on these initiatives can be found at TAXI’s own website under the headings Development and Co-Lab!.

Other Books from David Krut Publishing
