David Koloane and Alastair Whitton in studio9th May 2006 by Jillian Ross Alastair Whitton was also working in the studio last week, though his work could not be more different to David’s. Alastair is from Cape Town and he and I have been in regular contact since the latter part of last year. Alastair works in a very minimilist way, creating textures and patterns through line work and the re-working of images.

Nathaniel Stern and Robert Whitehead in studio20th April 2006 by Jillian Ross Nathaniel Stern and I have been experimenting with ways to combine digital imagery and traditional printmaking techniques. Over the last few weeks Nathaniel has been in and out of the studio with new images for us to translate.

Cyril Coetzee in Studio31st March 2006 by Jillian Ross The last time Cyril Coetzee was in the workshop he decided he wanted to reinforce certain lines in his existing image with a second etch in the acid bath. Once a second proof of the image was pulled Cyril decided to add a second aquatint plate for tonal areas. Tim prepared the plate for Cyril and he immediately began covering areas of the plate with a protective layer of hardground.

Colbert Mashile : Artist of the Month : March 200613th March 2006 by Jillian Ross Colbert Mashile was one of the first artists to be invited to work at David Krut Print Workshop when it opened its doors in 2002. Colbert has continued an ongoing collaboration with the studio for the last 4 years and has experimented in a variety of mediums including intaglio, linocut and monotype.

Wilma Cruise in studio - Pronto Plates and Monotypes10th March 2006 by Jillian Ross Wilma and I have continued working with pronto plates and monotype this week. We have developed a working method of sorts: one day we gear down to work with images from her sketch books and pronto plates and the next day we attack the same images with monotype.
