David Koloane and Alastair Whitton in studio

9th May 2006 by Jillian Ross

Alastair Whitton was also working in the studio last week, though his work could not be more different to David’s. Alastair is from Cape Town and he and I have been in regular contact since the latter part of last year. Alastair works in a very minimilist way, creating textures and patterns through line work and the re-working of images.

Cyril Coetzee in Studio

31st March 2006 by Jillian Ross

The last time Cyril Coetzee was in the workshop he decided he wanted to reinforce certain lines in his existing image with a second etch in the acid bath. Once a second proof of the image was pulled Cyril decided to add a second aquatint plate for tonal areas. Tim prepared the plate for Cyril and he immediately began covering areas of the plate with a protective layer of hardground.
