John Meyer
|
Painter John Meyer has redefined South African realism through the intense theatrical clarity with which he approaches his subject matter. Best known for his landscapes, which encompass the desolation of the Karoo to the haunting beauty of the Nordic fjords, Meyer is also an accomplished portrait-painter whose subjects range from statesman Nelson Mandela to legendary Russian pianist Vladimir Horowitz. More recently, Meyer has begun to explore the emotional ambiguities between people in what he calls a narrative genre. This full-colour, 160 page hardcover, coffee table book documents the art and personality of Meyer and contextualizes him within South African art and the broader brush-strokes of western realism.
