Let my people go: Albert Luthuli
|
The 21st of July marks the commemoration of the death of Albert Luthuli, the first African to receive the Nobel Peace Prize and also leader of the African National Congress for 15 years. Luthuli gave many Africans a vision of how they could be South Africans in a country at that time, 1961, beset by racial divisions, religious intolerance and fear. He enabled them to see the possibilities that they could achieve in a South Africa freed from racism. His vision was electrifying. This same vision of the great bull that broke the strong fence to wander far - as far as Oslo, needs to live on in Africans and remain a beacon in the struggle to be free. The book is available from David Krut Publishing, 140 Jan Smuts Avenue as well as our bookstore at Constitution Hill, Cnr Queen and Sam Hancock/Hospital Streets, Constitution Hill, Braamfontein.
