Visually stimulating images of South Africa offer a multifaceted view of the country in this recollection that is at once a history, a travel memoir, and a tribute. The photographer re-creates the trip taken by Alphons Hustinx, a Dutch filmmaker, writer, and photographer who journeyed around South Africa from 1934 to 1935 when the country was in the midst of a crippling depression and the racial problems were showing signs of future unease. As Obie Oberholzer travels Hustinx’s path, he illustrates his unique ability to translate the past’s problems and successes to today’s through his incredible photographic talent.
