Justice Carole Lewis’s Address at a Launch of ‘Witness to AIDS’

21st November 2007 by Guest Author

Justice Carole Lewis – Bloemfontein launch – 10 May 2005

Originally published on http://www.witnesstoaids.com/reviews.html#review3

Edwin Cameron’s moving and powerful account of his life with AIDS is a story not just about being a survivor and a witness to an epidemic that engulfs this continent.
It is also a story about personal courage. It is about a man with a public profile who made the decision to reveal his medical status in the full knowledge that it would bare his personal life to South Africans and many others worldwide.
It is about a man who knew that he would attract opprobrium and the wrath of politicians.

Andrzej Nowicki ‘Sleep Depot’

28th January 2008 by Lucy Rayner

Exhibition from the 21st February until the 29th March.

The world I paint has no future. It is a self-contained place without apparent movement. Yet on closer scrutiny, movement of a sort can be perceived. A receding pull from the past, to the past. This pull stems from the exploration of the old roads, an attempt to discover among these paths that which has been forgotten or overlooked. Strangely, when discovered, the relics that inspire my world carry with them qualities that resonate with the uncertainty we usually associate with the future; their unfamiliarity stems from their connection with a now distant world.

Avhashoni Mainganye has recently returned from Tanera Mòre Island in Scotland, where he was attending a two week artists’ workshop with 19 other artists from around the world. Avhashoni was the only African present and felt a great pride in being there to represent his continent. The workshop ran from the 1st of June to the 19th but unfortunately for Avhashoni he was not present at the beginning of the workshop.

Clay Workshop

12th May 2007 by André S Clements

Thursday 10 May, The Taxi Art Education Programme had a magnificent time with the children from the Ridge School and Sibonile School in the No 4 Lekgotla Space at Constitutional Hill. The TAEP team shared with the youth how easy it is to communicate while having fun, getting dirty, being creative and learning new things about yourself and others around you.

A more indepth account of the day will follow soon with many more pictures of the creative communication clay party.
