New work by Andrzej Nowicki

11th October 2007 | Other items by Fiona Pender

Since arriving in Jo’burg last Thursday, Andrzej hasn’t stopped working. He’s been creating more monotypes, as well as developing his four etching plates. After initially etching into the plates, they were proofed and Andrzej painted onto the prints to see where he wanted to use other techniques such as sugarlift and aquatint. He has since been working tone into his plates, which has added depth to his imagery.

Andrzej has been exploring other printing techniques, such as embossing and linocut. He’s experimenting with the images he creates by combining a couple of elements in the work. For instance, he will first print the copper plates, and then use plastic cut out figures to emboss onto this image. One of the images features an ebossed figure in the margin, as Andrzej was keen to incorporate this usually bare space into the main image.
