The Estée Lauder Charity Auction for Breast Cancer was definitely a night to remember. Last Wednesday’s event at the Saxon Hotel raised R427,000 towards the Breast Health Foundation, which aims at promoting breast cancer awareness in areas such as Soweto and Diepsloot.

If the venue, wine and canapés weren’t enough to impress (all sponsored for the event of course), the raffle and auction prizes were a cut above the rest. Ranging from a year’s annual supply of flowers; a catered dinner for eight at your home; tickets to New York fashion week; a meeting with make-up artist Bobby Brown to dinner at the Ivy in London, business class flights included!

Also on auction was a range of superb South African artworks. David Krut Publishing donated three works, two by Bruce Backhouse, The Great Camdeboo Ballroom and Conversation Piece I, and one by Robert Whitehead, Two pre-Crapalites - Poet Evasions, as well as a Mapula Book and pillowcase. The works proved very popular, especially Robert Whithead’s piece, and he made sure to thank the bidder personally.

It was great to be a part of such a fantastic event, especially knowing that the donations were going to such a worthy cause. As Sue Fox, Managing Director of Estée Lauder Companies South Africa, explained: this money will go a long way to help the Breast Health Foundation in improving the lives of so many women.
