David Krut Publishing enjoyed its first outing at the Design Indaba Expo, held annually at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Design Indaba is a celebration of the creativity of emerging and established designers and this year’s exhibition showcased a variety of talent from different sectors of the industry.
The Design Indaba proved the ideal forum to introduce the Assouline range of books to our distribution list, and to announce a new series of books on design by David Krut Publishing (the first volume of which is due for release in April 2008). Skillset a Primer in Graphic Design: Volume One generated a great deal of excitement amongst visitors to our booth, especially teachers and young designers. Volume One in the series is aimed at design students, young designers and established professionals. The book, written by Michael McGarry, will showcase the work of local designers and feature interviews, an essay on designing in the South African context, practical tips for practitioners, a glossary, and a comprehensive bibliography. It will be the first full-length book in South African on graphic design focused solely on local design talent.

The Assouline books, for which David Krut Publishing has secured exclusive distribution rights in Southern Africa, are lavish productions on fashion, interior décor and design, photography and fine arts. These beautiful and stylish publications have added depth to the DKP range of books on design and will keep the local industry abreast of international trends.

The Design Indaba provides an excellent platform for individuals in the creative industry who are constantly searching for fresh ideas and sources of reference. The most valuable part of our participation at this event was meeting with like-minded individuals and companies who are originating interesting and innovative projects. We spoke to designers, teachers, musicians, photographers, art collectors, and even the odd actor or two and what struck us most is the desire for collaboration in a variety of areas, from book making, to the teaching of design and the origination of art projects. David Krut Publishing was pleased to be able to share our projects with visitors to our booth at Design Indaba 2008. We look forward to ongoing contact with all who came to see us.
