Assouline has been producing art books that set a new standard in luxury and are art objects in their own right. The company is dedicated to quality design, which is as apparent in their books as in their boutique shops in New York, Paris, Athens, Hong Kong, Dubai and Montreal. With their exceptional reproduction quality, these beautifully bound, limited-edition books are irresistible.
Assouline books span art, fashion, photography and design. The large-format Portraits of the Renaissance, for example, promises more detail in the book than is visible in the small-scale original art works. And with titles such as Africa Is In Style, The New English Dandy, So Far so Goude and the delightful art-for-art’s-sake Rooster, Assouline produces quality books with a decidedly contemporary sensibility. Their books on fashion, including a small-scale series on contemporary fashion designers, are particularly well researched and produced. The beautifully produced The Proust Questionnaire contains the much-used interview format by the same name and contains Marcel Proust’s replies, as well as responses by other artists, writers and actors such as Brigitte Bardot. The blank pages are there to fill in your own answers or, like Proust, to encourage your friends to do so.
