David Krut Arts Resource launches new bookstore at the Johannesburg Art Gallery.

David Krut Bookstore at JAG stocks a range of books and magazines on South African and international art, architecture and design, including publications from David Krut Publishing, Tate Publishing (UK), Nazraeli Press (USA) and Illuminations dvds (UK), as well as catalogues of shows at the Johannesburg Art Gallery. In the coming months the store will expand its stock to include a broader range of books, catalogues, brochures and other publications.

Revel Fox, Filmmaker

With a view to putting in place a small film unit at David Krut Publishing, we have brought on board Revel Fox, a filmmaker from Cape Town who has worked in film and television in South Africa and the UK for the last twenty-five years. He is perhaps best known to South Africans as the director of the award-winning film about a young trapeze artist, The Flyer. We have invited Revie to submit some of his thoughts on films, filmmaking and film watching and he has done so in the form of a film diary. This is the first installment, and we invite you to return some comments via our blog on films that have influenced you.

Stompie Selibe Performs the World in New York

Johannesburg born visual artist and musician Stompie Selebi is a multi-talented individual. He not only creates beautiful artworks and music but he is also involved in community outreach programmes proving his versatility. He has been trained in art therapy at The Art Therapy Centre in Johannesburg six years ago. His training has given him the tools to work with different people who have experienced many things ranging from abuse, rape and living with HIV. He also uses his skills to work with teenagers sharing his passion and talents for the arts.

A Night of Magic at the Opera- Kentridge’s Flute a Hit

October the 2nd was a special day on the calender for the David Krut Projects staff. We had a date at the Civic Theatre to see William Kentridge’s Magic Flute. There was a buzz of excitement around the office with talk of outfits and lifts and speculation about what the opera would bring. The night finally arrived and the anticipation was killing us. The DK staff were decked out in all the finery and proved that artists are not slobs. This morning i went around and found out from everyone what their impressions were on the opera, everyone stopped short of gushing.

TAEP @ Gallo Downtown Studios by Irene Mavhutha

For the past 3 months Gallo facilities have been copied with Artistic kinetic energies. The Taxi Art Education programme acquired rehearsal space on the 4th floor in the civility. It is amazing how the inspired crew managed to cerbigroance of other Artists through visible energy conversion. It was a bit of a tiff for the team to attain recognitions, more especially because of Jimmy Diamond’s acclaimed fame. Diamond is a guitarist with fair and was ones upon a time TAEP’s own proud facilitator we sincerely miss his talents and real for life nonetheless life is a travelled Journey.

Justin Fox – Biography and Reviews

Justin Fox is a travel writer and photographer for Getaway magazine. He was a Rhodes Scholar and received a doctorate in English literature from Oxford University (1995) after which he was a research fellow at the University of Cape Town, where he now teaches part time.

Heritage Day Celebrations @ Constitution Hill

Taxi Art Education Programme (TAEP) was invited by the Heritage and Education Training programme (HET) of Constitution Hill to participate in their Heritage Day celebrations, on the 21st of September.

The event took place at the Dome at Constitution Hill. on arrival you spotted children dressed in various traditional outfits in a vast array of colours, what a spectacle. There was an energy in the dome and as soon as the master of ceremonies announced that the day was officially open the children bust out in a joyous chorus of elation.
