Mapping Memory: Former Prisoners Tell their Stories


Mapping Memory: Former Prisoners Tell their Stories is a project of Constitution Hill- the heritage precinct built around the Number Four prison complex and is now the home of Constitutional Court. The project brought back former prisoners who were held in the Women’s Jail and Number Four and created the opportunity for them to give material form to their memories made fragile by the passage of time.

Thursday 10 May, The Taxi Art Education Programme had a magnificent time with the children from the Ridge School and Sibonile School in the No 4 Lekgotla Space at Constitutional Hill. The TAEP team shared with the youth how easy it is to communicate while having fun, getting dirty, being creative and learning new things about yourself and others around you.

A more indepth account of the day will follow soon with many more pictures of the creative communication clay party.

‘Light on a Hill’ launches in Cape Town this weekend

Light on a Hill: Building the Constitutional Court of South Africa

When the new Constitutional Court of South Africa was officially opened in 2004 it caused a stir in the legal and architectural fraternities. It was built on the site of the notorious Old Fort Prison that had once held Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela and was an unlikely building for a court.

“Light on a hill” finalisation of a book.

The David Krut team set out for the constitutional court in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. The team consisted of David Krut (publisher), Adele (graphic artist) Bronwyn (editor), Cara (publicist), Nicolette (copywriter) and Bazukile (junior writer).

The objective of the trip was to finalise the book cover and to strategies how to market the book Light on a hill: Building the Constitutional Court of South Africa which deals with the architectural aspects of the building and the story behind the design.
