TAEP attends Book-making workshop

On 16 November 2007 the facilitators of the TAEP was introduced to the art of book-making. They attended a workshop at the Michaelis Art Library where they learnt how to bind a book from start to finish. Guided through the entire process of bookbinding, from cutting the paper, sewing the spine and making the covers, they were taught to produce a beautifully hand crafted work of art.

Street Folks and other projects at TAEP

Over the past two months the Taxi Art Education Programme, in collaboration with the Constitutional Court and the Rainbow All Sports Academy, has provided over twenty homeless children between the ages 8 to 20 years with a cause to stay off the streets. This cause is a play called Street Folks, written by TAEP facilitator Ricky Bopape with assistance from Mmabatho Mokwena, the Junior Education Coordinator at the Constitutional Court.

Stompie Selibe Performs the World in New York

Johannesburg born visual artist and musician Stompie Selebi is a multi-talented individual. He not only creates beautiful artworks and music but he is also involved in community outreach programmes proving his versatility. He has been trained in art therapy at The Art Therapy Centre in Johannesburg six years ago. His training has given him the tools to work with different people who have experienced many things ranging from abuse, rape and living with HIV. He also uses his skills to work with teenagers sharing his passion and talents for the arts.

TAEP @ Gallo Downtown Studios by Irene Mavhutha

For the past 3 months Gallo facilities have been copied with Artistic kinetic energies. The Taxi Art Education programme acquired rehearsal space on the 4th floor in the civility. It is amazing how the inspired crew managed to cerbigroance of other Artists through visible energy conversion. It was a bit of a tiff for the team to attain recognitions, more especially because of Jimmy Diamond’s acclaimed fame. Diamond is a guitarist with fair and was ones upon a time TAEP’s own proud facilitator we sincerely miss his talents and real for life nonetheless life is a travelled Journey.

Heritage Day Celebrations @ Constitution Hill

Taxi Art Education Programme (TAEP) was invited by the Heritage and Education Training programme (HET) of Constitution Hill to participate in their Heritage Day celebrations, on the 21st of September.

The event took place at the Dome at Constitution Hill. on arrival you spotted children dressed in various traditional outfits in a vast array of colours, what a spectacle. There was an energy in the dome and as soon as the master of ceremonies announced that the day was officially open the children bust out in a joyous chorus of elation.

TAEP Thrills at Roedean Community Service Day

On Saturday the 28th of July 2007 the Taxi Art Education Programme team woke up very early for an appointment with Roedean School for their annual Community Service Day. The day was for the kids and the team knew that they had to put in a lot of hard work because children can be the toughest critics. The school has adopted three children’s shelters in Johannesburg, and this annual event is organised to provide the kids with a day of fun and games where they can just be kids and not worry about the problems of the world.

I can hardly believe its mid-year already and all the learners are on holiday. This year has been a busy one for TAEP and many new and encouraging developments have come our way.
