Street Folks and other projects at TAEP

Over the past two months the Taxi Art Education Programme, in collaboration with the Constitutional Court and the Rainbow All Sports Academy, has provided over twenty homeless children between the ages 8 to 20 years with a cause to stay off the streets. This cause is a play called Street Folks, written by TAEP facilitator Ricky Bopape with assistance from Mmabatho Mokwena, the Junior Education Coordinator at the Constitutional Court.

Digital Surrogates Opening at David Krut Projects

The Digital Surrogates opening was a very successful event, and attracted a whole new crowd to the gallery. There are few events relating to the digital arts in South Africa and this lack of attention highlights the importance of this particular show.

A Night of Magic at the Opera- Kentridge’s Flute a Hit

October the 2nd was a special day on the calender for the David Krut Projects staff. We had a date at the Civic Theatre to see William Kentridge’s Magic Flute. There was a buzz of excitement around the office with talk of outfits and lifts and speculation about what the opera would bring. The night finally arrived and the anticipation was killing us. The DK staff were decked out in all the finery and proved that artists are not slobs. This morning i went around and found out from everyone what their impressions were on the opera, everyone stopped short of gushing.

Digital Surrogates

Digital Surrogates brings together four artists from across the globe who blur the line between digital interactive media and the fine arts. The show will feature five large digital portraits from a series entitled 13 Most Beautiful Avatars by Eva and Franco Mattes alongside paintings by Bronwyn Miller and photographs by Pippa Stalker. Together this work translates persuasively into an analysis of self, public perception and possibility.
